Teas, just like coffee are classified according to types and the each type according to various quality grades. The most popularly known types of teas are: black tea, oolong tea, green tea, and white tea. Each type of tea is blended to create the special taste that will satisfy each drinker’s discriminating palate. Herbal tea on the other hand is a kind of blended tea that includes various herbs and spices that alter or enhance the taste.
Likewise, there is also grade classification in various types of teas and it’s referred to as Pekoe. Pekoe black tea for one is a fine grade of black tea, which includes young tea leaves and buds. When well handled and brewed, pekoe black tea has a rich forest-like scent with a hint of bitterness and a sweet finish. Pekoe in itself is graded with the highest grade including two tea leaves around a tight tea bud. Like many black teas, pekoe is best if it can be obtained in loose leaf form. The loose leaf tea contains only buds and leaves, and does not include stems and fannings from the sorting process.
